News of the acquisition comes just a month after BWAY Corporation was bought by private equity house Platinum Equity – which also owns Contego Packaging in the UK.

In a statement, Louis Samson, a partner at Platinum Equity, said that Ropak and BWAY were “complementary” and said there were “compelling synergies between the two businesses that make this… transaction a unique combination”.

In the statement on the latest deal, BWAY president and chief executive officer Kenneth Roessler added: “Integrating Ropak into our business creates an excellent opportunity to broaden our product portfolio and expand our reach.”

Ropak is a North American producer of rigid, plastic shipping containers serving the consumer goods, food processing, construction, dairy, petroleum and other industries.

Ropak president Greg Toft said that the combination with BWAY “represents an exciting opportunity for Ropak and its employees”.

The deal is also the latest in a series of recent disposals by Linpac, which have included the sales of its Australian arm Viscount in August this year and its transit packaging arm Allibert in January.

A number of smaller sales of non-core units were made during 2010 and 2011.
